ABOUT PILLANS PACK STORIES

I’m Lauren - author, animal lover, and lifelong advocate for rescue dogs.

For the past 11 years, I’ve been fostering and adopting dogs from various charities around the UK. My journey has been filled with joy, heartbreak, and countless lessons from the incredible animals I’ve had the privilege to care for. Some came into my life for only a short while, others stayed forever, a few by “foster fail” and others through intentional adoption. Each dog brought their own story, and each one left a paw print on my heart.

The children’s books I write are inspired by the real life experiences of these rescue dogs. Through their stories - gently adapted for young readers - I aim to help children navigate some of the challenges they face in life, build empathy and find comfort in difficult times. Whether it's about overcoming fear, embracing differences, or dealing with grief, the heart of every book is a true story of resilience and love.

My very first book, “Until We Meet Again, Lilo,” is a deeply personal one. It’s based on the journey of Lilo, a tiny puppy I fostered alongside her brother, Stitch, when they were just four hours old. Both were born with cleft palates and required round the clock tube feeding every two hours until they grew strong enough to eat on their own. Stitch found a loving home at 12 weeks old, while Lilo stayed with me - her complex medical needs and our unbreakable bond meant I could never face parting with her.

Lilo was with me for two unforgettable years before passing away from heart failure. She was my soul dog - the one who changed everything. I hope this book can offer healing and comfort to children learning to cope with the loss of a beloved pet, it's never easy.

Through each story I write, I hope to honour these amazing dogs, the lessons they’ve taught me and to share those lessons with children in a way that is kind, honest, and full of hope.

The next three books have already been drafted and will be available soon! We have coming up...

"The Brave Bulldog" - helping children deal with change through Lou's story

"Dallas + The Busy Brain" - a story of Arnie helping Dallas to cope with overstimulation and ADHD

"The Wiggle Wobble Club" - the heartwarming tale of Katie and Teacup, two dogs who struggle with differences

Thank you for being here and for supporting these stories - at the end of each book is a little about the dogs that each story was inspired by and the rescue they came from!

With love,
Lauren
